chargecloud enables fully compliant billing of charging sessions at payment terminals

chargecloud enables fully compliant billing of charging sessions at payment terminals

The German software company will present a solution for ad-hoc charging using debit or credit cards with Mennekes and Hectronic at the E-World in Essen.

Starting from July 2023, electric vehicle drivers must be able to charge and pay at public charging stations using just their credit card. Operators of public charging stations will then be required to install payment terminals in their charging stations or create new payment options near charge points to comply with the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Directive (AFID) and German Ladesäulenverordnung (LSV).

The solution developed by chargecloud, Mennekes and Hectronic allows charge point operators (CPOs) to meet these requirements and enable simple and secure payments for ad-hoc charging via NFC payment terminals.

Easy charging via credit card

The solution allows EV drivers to easily pay via debit or credit card at charging stations. Drivers can choose their charging point, after which the card is authorised by the payment terminal and the charging session is started via the chargecloud platform.

The charging station transmits all billing-related information back to the chargecloud platform, such that chargecloud can calculate the price of the charging session based on the tariff chosen by the operator.

chargecloud then transmits all required payment data to the terminal via a secure protocol. The charging session is debited, and the driver receives a receipt from the payment terminal.

Compliance with EV charging regulations

All charging-related data is securely transmitted between the charging station, the terminal cloud and chargecloud’s charge point management platform. Chargecloud automates the entire tariff and billing process, while the payment terminal from Hectronic makes charging accessible to all via debit or credit card.

Thanks to the optimal combination of hardware, software, and payment terminal, operators of public charging stations can meet the requirements of the German Charging Station Regulation (Ladesäulenverordnung) and the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Directive (AFIR).

Flexible by design

With the solution designed by chargecloud, charge point operators can offer simultaneous charging at multiple stations in one location via a single payment terminal.

Thanks to the hardware-agnostic approach, operators can choose which charge station brand they wish to use and combine multiple hardware models in a single location. The only requirement is that the selected charging points communicate with chargecloud platform via OCPP.

With this innovative approach, CPOs enjoy a wide range of hardware options and great flexibility – as they can choose a recommended payment service provider (PSP) or work with their existing payment services company.

chargecloud, Mennekes and Hectronic will present their approach to integrating NFC payment terminals into EV charging operations at the E-World in Essen.

“We look forward to introducing our solution and talking about opportunities to further optimise charging infrastructure and billing processes, “ says Markus Bach, CEO of chargecloud.

To learn more about managing charging infrastructure and payments in EV operations, visitors can come by stand 37 in Hall GA from May 23-25, 2023.
