Kiwigrid launches new product family “The Transactive Grid” for flexible integration of grid signals and dynamic tariffs

Kiwigrid has launched a new product: The Transactive Grid enables energy suppliers, system providers and their end customers to implement the requirements of §14a EnWG and integrate dynamic electricity tariffs into energy management.

Connectivity with the flexible energy market of the future

The new TTG product family connects controllable energy devices such as EV chargers and heat pumps securely and conveniently with smart metering systems (iMSys) and processes relevant market and grid signals. With the TTG.utility product, these signals can be integrated directly into the energy management system via a data interface (API). This includes, for example, price data from the European power exchange EPEX Spot and price signals from dynamic tariffs. Communication with the controllable devices is realized via the EEBUS protocol in order to implement control commands from distribution grid operators.

The TTG product family fits perfectly into the existing product portfolio. The integration into the energy market complements the existing functionalities of the Kiwigrid Energy Manager as a hardware component, the KiwiOS platform as a software component and the white label products from The Independent Home (TIH). Price data and control signals received via TTG can be displayed in the TIH frontend for end customers and used for energy optimization.

Added value for system providers, electricity providers and energy suppliers
The Transactive Grid offers benefits for everyone involved in the energy market. For end customers, TTG means lower electricity costs thanks to the automatic control of their appliances at times when electricity prices are low. At the same time, they benefit from reduced grid charges as the systems meet the requirements of §14a EnWG. End customers thus actively participate in the energy market and contribute to better use of renewable energies as flexumers.

Electricity providers and energy suppliers can seamlessly integrate their dynamic tariffs into Kiwigrid's energy management system and benefit from bidirectional communication in the future. This enables more precise control and planning through the exchange of consumption and generation data.

Connectivity is continuously expanded and extensively tested
In the first step, Kiwigrid integrates all tariffs of the Smart Meter Initiative as well as the dynamic tariffs of the energy supplier enviaM. In the area of network integration, the common smart meter gateway administrators (SMGWA), smart meter gateways (SMGW) and control box manufacturers are connected.

The use cases in connection with TTG are tested extensively in Kiwigrid's “Utility Lab”. In order to test the interaction between devices and the energy market, real scenarios are simulated in the test lab - for example, the connection of a smart metering system with a CLS control unit and a heat pump.

The tests are being carried out in collaboration with a large number of partners. These include smart meter gateway administrators, providers of dynamic tariffs and manufacturers of controllable consumers. A first milestone was reached with the successful §14a test run together with MitNetz in the Utility Lab. The output of an EEBUS-capable heat pump was deliberately reduced in a controlled manner by Kiwigrid's Energy Manager in order to simulate a realistic grid intervention.

At E-World 2025 from February 11 to 13 in Essen, we will be presenting the new TTG product family live together with selected partners in Hall 5, booth F125.
