Ministers Pinkwart and Schulze Föcking opened E-world 2018 at Messe Essen

Europe's leading energy trade fair, E-world energy & water, started today.Until Thursday, around 750 exhibitors, a new record, are showing innovative solutions for the future of the energy supply at Messe Essen. Products and services relating to all aspects of energy generation, trading, transport, storage and efficiency are being presented - this year, above all under the heading of the smart (networked) city. Amongst other items, the companies are showing networks for the exchange of heat between buildings, portable solar power or also solar roof tiles for the generation of electricity and heat.

Andreas Pinkwart, Minister for Economic Affairs of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), and Christina Schulze Föcking, NRW's Minister for Environment, opened E-world in the morning.Together, they highlighted the significance of the energy transition and climate protection. Pinkwart: "Our objective is the efficient networking of an energy system which is increasingly being characterised by renewable energies. Even if the proportion accounted for by fossil energy generation is dropping constantly, flexible power stations will still be needed as a supplement to the renewables until power storage units, flexible customer demand and smart networks can assume this role completely."

E-world has taken place at Messe Essen every year since 2001 and is regarded as the most important sectoral meeting place of the European energy and water industries. Please find attached pictures of today's press conference and impressions of the fair. We are cordially inviting you to visit the trade fair. E-world is open to trade visitors from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday. The West Press Centre is at the disposal of journalists and you can also obtain accreditation there.
