Sector coupling - the formula for success in the energy future?

The new E-world Magazine is out

With our E-world Magazine, we inform you about the latest trends and topics in the energy industry. Find here insights into the newly printed autumn edition of the E-world Magazine, which you can order for free.

The transformation of the energy market

The energy sector and the market are constantly changing. The current development process is characterized by digitalization and increasing networking. In the section "energy transition" of the new E-world Magazine, you can find out more about the future of the energy industry and the changes it will bring. You can expect exciting articles on our main topic sector coupling.

Andreas Feicht, State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWi), reflects in his article "Regulatory sandboxes for the energy transition’ pilot the climate-friendly society of tomorrow" first experiences made during the practical transfer in the current regulatory sandboxes and presents  insights. "A system based on renewable energy sources gains the necessary flexibility to balance supply and demand of energy and to keep supply services stable by coupling the electricity, heat and transport sectors as well as industrial applications," writes Feicht. "The use of electricity from renewable energy plants for hydrogen production is an important element in this context".

The new knowledge should then be used during renewable energy expansion projects. But how can such projects be financed in future? Contracts for Difference (CfD) and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) are currently under discussion. "The introduction of contracts for difference would be a departure from the principle of a market-based energy transition, in which market participants orient their behaviour to the market price signal and the overall system is thus efficient in the end," writes Barbara Lempp, managing director of EFET Deutschland, in her article "The future funding of renewable energy projects via CfDs or PPAs”. Lempp also explains in detail the special features and differences between CfDs and PPAs.

In addition to these exciting contributions, you will also find out what the legal framework for sector coupling could look like, how the transport and energy system transformation can be thought of in a networked way and how process automation for EEG and CHP plants can take place.

The energy source of the future

Hydrogen is and remains one of the most discussed topics in the energy industry. Its potential as an important carrier in the energy transition is huge. That is why we have given this energy carrier its own section in our November issue of the E-world Magazine. Here you can expect four exciting articles from industry experts.

"The dawn of the global hydrogen age has begun" is the title of the article by the World Energy Council - Germany e.V. More and more countries are publishing their own hydrogen strategies. In its contribution, the World Energy Council argues for more international cooperation on important issues such as infrastructure development and certification. "Hydrogen offers great opportunities for international cooperation and trade relations along new value chains. After all, the high level of investment required will not be made in the exporting countries alone, but will only be realized in international partnerships", Dr. Carsten Rolle, Managing Director World Energy Council - Germany, is quoted.
