"Nothing is as constant as change" (Heraclitus)

Climate targets will profoundly change the business models of municipal utilities and other energy suppliers and grid operators. Renewable electricity generation as well as heat supply must be massively expanded, and electricity grids must be extended to cope with a rising consumption. Gas sales based on fossil gas will have no future and the gas grids will have to be converted to hydrogen and other green gases or the gas grid infrastructure will have to be challenged in the long term. This will require other technologies, new business models and funding.

In this event, we would like to analyse the challenges and options related to the goal of climate neutrality by 2045. The electricity, gas and heat sectors with the value creation stages of generation, grids and distribution will be examined. Controversial topics such as the use of hydrogen for building heat and the possibilities and limits of grid expansion for electricity and heat will also be addressed.

Please note: The conference will be held in German.

The Federal Climate Protection Act (Klimaschutzgesetz (KSG)) has also set ambitious emission reduction targets for the building sector. Building owners can achieve these targets through a combination of three measures. First and foremost are the renovation of the building's energy envelope and the use of innovative technology, possibly in combination with a change of energy source. The first measure in particular is extremely cost-intensive. And: energy efficiency measures alone will not enable the building sector to achieve the sector target. Therefore, renewable energies must increasingly be used in the heat supply. A reliable green energy path for all energy sources (electricity, district and local heating and also gas) is the be-all and end-all.

The housing and energy sectors must therefore reflect on their long-standing partnership and renew it, because while the housing sector needs a reliable green energy path to achieve its goals, the energy sector is dependent on long-term and reliable supplier relationships with the housing sector. In order to hedge the quite high investment cost risks of the energy industry, the energy industry is interested in long-term and also dynamic contracts that enable variable pricing according to cost increases.

In order to create a win-win situation out of this constellation, a new edition of the partnership between the housing and energy industries is needed. The conference at E-world offers room for dialogue between the two sectors.

The role of energy suppliers and municipal utilities in fibre optic expansion is the focus of this year's Fibre Optic Forum, because fibre optic expansion is regional infrastructure business, for which municipal utilities are predestined due to their core business. More and more energy suppliers and municipal utilities are adding a new area of business to their portfolio of services with the broadband supply of their catchment area.

In order to support other companies in successfully integrating this new pillar into their product portfolio, the Fibre Optic Forum is available as an innovative information and networking format in the context of E-world. Together with top speakers from politics, trade associations and municipal utilities with broadband experience, the topic "Acceleration of fibre optic expansion" will be discussed this year. The focus will be on the digitalisation of application procedures, the interaction of self-supported and subsidised expansion, and efficiency in the laying of fibre.

The enthusiasm for hydrogen is unbroken in the German, European and international energy industry. The possible applications and the associated potential for avoiding greenhouse gas emissions also for the neighbouring sectors of industry, transport and housing make the energy carrier interesting for many players. This is all the more true when it comes to green hydrogen from renewable energies.

Catalysed by hydrogen strategies and funding programmes at all political levels, an extensive panorama of feasibility studies, model projects and scaling-up projects has emerged over the past year and a half. But which of the expectations for the energy carrier are realistic? Which areas of application are not only theoretically but also practically feasible? What demand results from the hydrogen projects, and how can it be met?

The Hydrogen Forum at E-world 2022 sets out to answer these questions in discussion with important players in the developing European and German hydrogen economy.

Presentations will be held in German and English. We will provide you with a simultaneous translation for the respective other language.

The market for energy services - like the entire energy industry - is subject to constant change. This is especially true in light of current developments and discussions in the market and in politics. As a long-standing program partner, MPW will provide you with a comprehensive overview of the current developments in the market for energy services at this year's E-world Congress.

The focus here is on a 360° view of the topic. Thus, the topic "Energy Services 2022" is examined from four different perspectives: The first approach sheds light on the political side from the perspective of a highly specialized industry association, which represents the interests of market players in the field of energy services. Subsequently, the topic will be explored from the perspective of a municipal utility, highlighting in particular the challenges in the field of energy services from the utility's point of view. In the further course of the program, experts from MPW will present the relevant big points for market participants in the sector. To complete the 360° view, the potential added values of energy services from the customer and partner perspective will be examined from a fourth perspective.

More than half of the world's population already lives in cities, and by 2050 this figure will be around 85% in industrialized countries. These urban centers thus already play a decisive role in the development and realization of new ideas in areas such as energy efficiency or sector coupling. For the implementation of all these projects, energy networks as basic infrastructure as well as decision-making processes in cities are particularly important.

This workshop brings together the experiences of cities and utilities from across Europe with smart and flexible grids. Get inspired for projects in your municipality, learn from the experiences of others and take away starting points for implementation. The event will give you an insight into BABLE's advanced training "Smart and flexible grids in the context of the connected and smart city" as well as exemplary into the development of the roadmap for scaling innovative climate neutral technologies of the city of Leipzig. The roadmap was developped in cooperation with the European Investment Bank.

Many municipalities and regions have developed hydrogen strategies and concepts in recent years. Inspired, among other things, by national funding, extensive climate protection projects for urban economies have emerged and are emerging across all sectors. The task now is to implement the plans and, if necessary, to coordinate them across city boundaries in order to exploit synergy effects.

The Regional Forum Hydrogen at Europe's leading energy industry trade fair, E-world, is specifically targeting municipalities in order to promote the mutual exchange of experience and stimulate cooperation. How can as much of the added value as possible be generated locally? How can hydrogen be produced locally and distributed in the best possible way? And how can the implementation of ambitious projects be accelerated?

The conference is aimed at representatives of municipalities, regional administrations and economic development agencies, as well as project sponsors.

Please note that the conference will be held in German only.

Attendance is free of charge after registration in the E-world ticket shop.
