The development of a hydrogen value chain is essential for the successful transformation of German industry: production, infrastructure and use of the new raw material must be thought of together for an economic and sustainable market. The Business Metropole Ruhr GmbH and the network Greentech.Ruhr have analysed the activities in the H2 economy in the Ruhr region and developed recommendations for action for the development of the future key technology with a special focus on green hydrogen. STEAG GmbH and duisport - Duisburger Hafen AG will present their current H2 projects for a possible path of preferable green hydrogen, from production to exemplary application in steel production as well as freight transportation.

Three short presentations will get to the heart of the opportunities and challenges of hydrogen, followed by a discussion format with you. The industrial transformation is still in its infancy, so in order to open up new markets and opportunities, your input is essential. Cooperation between industry, politics and society remains important.

How will the energy mix change in the future? Under what conditions can climate neutrality be achieved in the energy sector? When will demand for fossil fuels peak? What are the long-term implications of the global corona pandemic for energy supply? In the new publication of the World Energy Council - Germany "Prognosis and Scenarios for Global Energy Supply in Comparison", the focus is on interpreting the future. Energy scenarios and forecasts are not prophecies, yet they provide orientation for decision-makers in business and politics, for science and for society in general. They help to identify and classify global trends.

The authors of the analysis, Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Schiffer and Burkhard von Kienitz, both members of the study committees of the World Energy Council at national and international level, will present the results in a webinar at E-World and will be available for a subsequent discussion.

Please note: the event will be held in German only.

Not only our ecological environment is changing, but also our energy systems in order to accommodate the changes in the former with sustainable and innovative solutions. In this event, experts will discuss the associated complexity management. Other exciting topics include the fact that standardization is an important factor in the efficient use of alternative energy sources such as solar energy, and how cybersecurity in energy supply can be guaranteed. What do concepts for secure charging look like? What role do blockchains play in modern energy systems and how can autonomy levels be defined for grid operation? Our experts will provide answers and food for thought for the new generation of energy ecosystems!

Please note that this event is split in two parts: The second part will start at 4 p.m., also on May 25 in the E-world Community.

The decarbonisation of mobility and heat supply will pose major challenges for utility grid operators. Electricity distribution network operators are taking on more tasks with Redispatch 2.0 and the management of interruptible consumption facilities and will compete for funding for the increasing investment needs with other energy industry fields of activity.
Gas distribution system operators have to keep an eye on the long-term investment perspectives due to the replacement of fossil natural gas with green gases as gas consumption continues to rise. The prospects with green hydrogen are basically there, but it remains to be seen if and when hydrogen will be available in what quantities for household customers and heat supply.
With equity interest rates falling and regulatory requirements rising at the same time, the pressure to manage assets sustainably and reduce costs will increase.

Please note: The event will be held in German only.

In the autumn, the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) will decide on the level of interest rates on equity for network operators in the next regulatory period. In the industry, the fear is going around that a further reduction of the permissible returns threatens and investments in the networks thus lose their attractiveness. The energate webtalk examines the question of what interest rate would be appropriate in light of the growing challenges.

Cities need to play a leading role in the energy transition. With more than 100+ cities committed to becoming net zero carbon by 2050, we need to identify and adapt technologies to fit urban requirements. The start are impulses from our energy trainers form the EU project SPARCS. Then later in the workshop, energy experts, researchers and entrepreneurs are invited to identify the potential application of their product/technology/research in the urban context. The goal is to find and adapt solutions that can help cities be carbon neutral in the near future.

Who can join: Energy professional, municipal representatives, energy utility representatives

Trains, busses, ships, utility vehicles, airplanes and cars – all of them can run on hydrogen. The European Union and the G8 members agreed to reduce CO2 emissions by 80 percent until 2050. As increasing road traffic is regarded as one of the main sources of emissions, it is estimated that 95 percent of it must be converted to alternative drives. Green hydrogen can make a vital contribution towards achieving that goal.

A new phase of the energy transition has begun, marked by a broad consensus on the need to decarbonize. But setting net-zero targets is one thing– making change happen is quite another.

To gain a deeper understanding of how German industries, plus municipal utilities and other energy companies, are approaching this challenge, Uniper has produced Index Net-Zero, a new survey of decision-makers and executives who are looking to develop and implement decarbonization strategies within their own organizations.

In this web session, you will find out what Index Net-Zero tells us about the different short- and long-term priorities these organizations are facing and the different perspectives on decarbonization technologies, targets and barriers. There will also be the opportunity to gain insights into Uniper’s approach as a partner for decarbonization solutions for industries, municipal utilities and other energy companies.

¾ of all risk managers include climate change in relevant risks for their companies. Regulatory requirements, climate-related changes in infrastructure, population growth, and capital flows impact the value of existing and planned assets. Most companies have recognized this issue but do not have appropriate valuation approaches.

Baringa Partners has worked with clients to develop a model that identifies and measures risk for individual companies. In this web session, James Belmont will provide insight into regulatory pressures, how the financial sector is dealing with them, and what this means for companies in the real economy.
