Efficient and reliable Back Office operations are essential for the success of every trading company allowing Front Office to focus on market facing activities and serving customers in a professional way. Back Office departments are often faced with time and cost pressure resulting in an increasing need to strive for automation and operational excellence in daily operations.

With the presence of new and more structured products, geographical expansion and increasing trading activities, Back Office departments need to consider (1) adapting and improving existing processes and procedures, (2) re-aligning the operating model and (3) digitising daily operations (e.g. by leveraging new systems and tools) along the trade capture to payment process.

This session led by Baringa Partners supports a peer-to-peer discussion and exchange on latest challenges faced and solutions developed by Back Office departments in energy trading.

With the amendment to the German Energy Act (EnWG), the German government has for the first time introduced regulation for hydrogen networks. Are the amendments suitable to advance the desired market ramp-up of hydrogen technology? Does the focus on certain sectors make sense, or should hydrogen be used in a technology-neutral way? The moderators Heiko Lohmann and Karsten Wiedemann from energate discuss these and other questions with a round of experts.

In Europe, guarantees of origin schemes already exist for renewable electricity, which is obligatory as per the current European Renewable Energy Directive and Member States are mandated to create a GO Scheme. In the revised version of the Directive, GO schemes will also be introduced for renewable gas and hydrogen. Moreover, regulatory targets are being set for an increasing number of sectors and further certification will be required for the actors to show compliance with the new set targets.

This panel constituted of representatives from the hydrogen industry (producers, users, certification schemes, traders) will explain what the benefits and challenges of a well-organized scheme are for guarantees of origin and certificates and how it will foster the development of a European clean hydrogen market.

Where energy and mobility transformation meet, potentials for new business models and solutions for existing challenges arise. Mobility infrastructures must not only be provided in sufficient numbers, but must also be decentralized, networked, controllable and available in the right place. Companies, network operators, municipalities and the real estate industry are challenged to develop suitable solutions.

On the customer side, the increasing complexity of charging models contrasts with the desire for simplicity. For new mobility services to be successful, they need user-friendly and economically viable products that appeal to the various target groups. Municipalities and companies converting their fleets need to plan their charging infrastructure, operate load and charge management, and avoid pitfalls with simultaneous self-supply and the necessary accrual of electricity volumes.

The workshop is aimed at managers and employees in companies who implement mobility topics in practice. The target group includes energy suppliers and other mobility service providers as well as municipalities and companies that are converting to e-vehicles and charging infrastructure at their locations.

The workshop combines an overview of current legal issues in the field of electromobility with concrete suggestions for operational implementation. In doing so, Becker Büttner Held's experts will provide an update on current challenges and highlight options for action and approaches to solutions.

Long-term goals have been formulated for the heat transition to save greenhouse gases, reduce primary energy use and increase the share of renewable energy. However, many cities still lack an idea of how the concrete transformation of the heat supply can work on site: Which areas should district heating supply, and how should it be decarbonized? How important are district concepts and local heating supplies? What technology is available for decentralised, building-based heat supply, and what competition is there between these solutions? And how does this fit in with climate neutrality strategies?

The webinar will highlight the opportunities (and recently obligations?!) for all players in the heating market - such as utilities, heat generators, grid operators and municipalities - to embrace this transformation process. In particular, municipal utilities have a variety of opportunities to strategically position and shape the heat transition.

Cities need to play a leading role in the energy transition. With more than 100+ cities committed to becoming net zero carbon by 2050, we need to identify and adapt technologies to fit urban requirements. The start are impulses from our energy trainers form the EU project SPARCS. Then later in the workshop, energy experts, researchers and entrepreneurs are invited to identify the potential application of their product/technology/research in the urban context. The goal is to find and adapt solutions that can help cities be carbon neutral in the near future.

"Decarbonization" and "climate neutrality" are currently two of the most used buzzwords in society today. In the energy industry, too, CO2 reduction, avoidance or even capture are much discussed terms against the background of the climate crisis. Many technologies are currently under discussion; political, entrepreneurial and social strategies are being developed in many places. But what is behind them? Where are sensible starting points for the long road to climate neutrality?
These and other questions will be discussed at the kick-off event of the brand-new "E-world Community" on February 9, 2021. Experts will provide insights into their respective work and report on pioneering projects.

Energy transition and digitization are closely linked. The integration of an ever-increasing share of renewable energies and decentralized flexibilities into the energy system heavily depends on digital processes. In addition, market players are developing new business models with the help of blockchain or AI. While this will generate opportunities, the availability and quality of data is also a challenge for companies and public policies alike.
